Oh boy. I’ll never forget having to tell Paula to stop for a second, and cover herself, because this one was taken on a nudist beach. And I had interesting things showing up in the background through my viewfinder, as well as other beachgoers getting very close to us, which made me uncomfortable.

Oh, this was a fun evening. One in which I thought no pictures at all were going to be taken! Because I wanted to shoot slide film (Ektachrome E100), and my location was completely covered in fog! I still remember driving there and thinking ‘how am I going to…?’
My solution was to just say ‘we’re going to drive and find a pocket of light’, which we did. And we took wonderful pictures you can see in the Portraits page. But the one that was selected by BLUR, was one of my test shots on my then-new Nikon F3/T on Silbersalz35 (Kodak Vision 3 film)

We were published in the 2023 June Issue #5 with a couple of spreads, the second one being a full landscape image of Haridian wearing a pink bikini in a small natural puddle, the kinds of which are as popular as ever in the Canary Islands. So much so, that in social media people complain in the comments that these small natural pools / puddles made made by the volcanic nature of our islands should be hidden & protected from mass tourism.

So I had this idea in the back of my mind, to shoot leaving the model in shadow, and use the surrounding light to paint the shape of the model. It just so happened that I found the right spot, so I went along with it and, everybody liked the result! Something different from the usual Swimwear shoot I guess. I look forward to trying this out once again, maybe with slide film instead of negatives. Should provide much better bite into that contrast. But regardless, these also look pretty good :)
